Songambele Hospital is a health institute established and owned by the Registered Trustee of Songambele through the Catholic Diocese of Shinyanga. The hospital is in Bariadi District Council and bas been providing health services since 1994 as a dispensary. The dispensary was upgraded to Health center on 2014 and then to district Hospital on 16th November 2021. The Hospital is a not-for-profit Faith Based Organization with a capacity of 135 beds, serving more than 1,000 people per month. Among the major health services provided are primary health care services both Inpatient and Outpatient services, comprehensive emergency obstetric newborn care services, and nutrition services.
The hospital has realized great achievement in terms of services provision, hospital operations and hospital expansion with modern medical equipment’s from its main funder called Roads to Life Tanzania, Including CT scan machine, ECHO, ECG, Portable X-ray, C-arm machine etc. which has been providing funding for the expansion and operation of Songambele Hospital. In offering the services above, a dedicated multidisciplinary team and health care professionals including 4 Medical officers, 2 Assistant Medical Officers, 12 trained nurses, 12 Assistant Nursing Officers, 1 Laboratory Technologist and 4 Assistant Laboratory Technologist.
Other professionals include 1 Radiographer, 1 Pharmacist, 4 Pharmaceutical technician, 1 Biomedical engineer, 6 drivers etc. The Management is also comprised of a Medical Officer Incharge, Health Secretary, Head of Finance, Head of Clinical supportive Services, Chief Clinician, Head of Quality Services, and other support staff, together contributed to offering the services mentioned above.

I graciously welcome you to Catholic Diocese of Shinyanga Songambele Hospital to partner and work to foster our great vision “To grow, train and build practitioner capacity to continually provide the best medical services in diversified areas of specialty and super specialty.
Songambele Hospital has grown from 44 beds to a capacity of 135beds in the past 30 years. Today the hospital has more than 100 employees, serving about 176,774 population in the catchment area(Nkololo, Mwaubingi, Mwadobana, Nkindwabiye, Mwaumatondo, Gilya, Ihusi, Gibeshi,Benemhi and other places). The hospital is operating as District Hospital offering primary and specialized clinical services. The hospital financing is from different sources, grant from Roads To Life (RTL) being main source followed by own income from patient revenue and the Government of Tanzania. The journey toward self-financial sustainability is our new plan from 2026.
We are not for profit organization, serving marginalized poor communities and lake zone in Tanzania. Our main mission is to facilitate the existence of a better and healthy society by providing quality healthcare at an affordable cost. Being not for profit we depend very much on support from donors with hearts for serving the underserved and marginalized communities. We welcome everyone to work and partner with us through Prayers, Volunteering, donations (be equipment or money) to support patients’ care.
